An upper level low pressure system spinning over the upper midwest will continue to move east over the next few days. This low is producing a deep positively tilted trough bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms currently to Kentucky and Tennessee. More widespread showers and storms are expected across the Great Lakes all the way down to Mississippi and Alabama tomorrow. This activity will arrive into the Capital region, west to east, by Sunday afternoon.

Expect showers to begin to fall around 2pm in Speculator, Amsterdam, and Cobleskill. By 4-5pm, we could see much heavier rainfall and even some thunderstorms in these cities. The precipitation wil arrive in Albany and Clifton Park around 4pm. By sunset, the entire Capital region, including western portions of Vermont and Massachusetts, should be pretty soggy with embedded thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has not issued any severe weather precautions yet, but they could pop up tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned to weatherblogging.com for any severe weather updates.
