That Pesky Lake Breeze
All week, I have been harping on the warmest day of the year being on Thursday as temperatures would climb into the 60s. Well, it turns out I was correct as expected as 62° was the official high at the airport.
While 62° was reported at the airport, not all communities made it into the 60s, as some didn’t even hit the 50s due to a lake breeze that developed late morning. Take Charlotte for example. Their high only made it to a raw 45°. Most locations south of 490 were far enough away from the lake to allow temperatures to reach 60 or more, like Henrietta where I had the luxury of working outside all day in the spring like air.
Turning our attention to the forecast now… A system over the Central Plains is heading our away over the next few days. It will bring us some rain beginning on Friday, but the heaviest rain will arrove mainly from Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
On Friday, expect passing showers off and on throughout the day. Temperatures still way above normal and will approach 60 degrees again.
Scattered light showers will begin to develop Saturday morning, but the steadier rain will not arrive until later on in the day. We could be in store for some flooding issues Saturday night into Sunday. This rain will melt away most of the remaining snow pack. I think we’ll see over an inch of rain out of this system and the additional run off water from the snow is likely to cause some problems.
Looking ahead at the pattern next week. No arctic air anywhere near us. The upper level flow will remain ridgy in nature allowing temperatures to remain above normal. 40s and low 50s it’s looking like. Should remain dry too…
