The weather on Sunday was certainly the “diamond in the rough” so to speak with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to low 30s. The nice weather will be short lived as a couple of disturbances will be working their way through bringing a variety of precipitation beginning Monday afternoon.

A surface low pressure system is scheduled to head our way from the Ohio Valley on Monday and will scoot just to our west keeping us on the warm side of the low. The first wave of precipitation will arrive on our door step late Monday afternoon. The biggest forecasting challenge right now is whether or not we will see snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet or a combination of all four. For sure, we’ll see snow, but don’t be surprised to see passing areas of sleet and a few rain drops hitting your windshield if you’re on the roads Monday evening. No snow accumulation expected. Highs again will peak in the mid 30s. Right around seasonal values.

The majority of the precipitation will exit Western New York Tuesday morning giving us another mostly cloudy day. Cannot rule out a passing flurry or sprinkle, but the vast majority of the day will be dry. Temperatures will hit the mid 30s once again.

Things may get interesting Tuesday night into Wednesday as a low off of the east coast may push areas of moderate snow far enough westward to affect us. We’ll have to keep an eye on this as the potential for accumulating snows is a possibility. Right now, the models show the snow making it into Monroe County, but a swing of 10 miles east or west will make a significant difference in the forecast. Stay tuned.
