Rochester Area 2/8 & 2/9
The weather over the next 48 hours or so will be characterized by calm and cold conditions with only a passing flurry or two off of the lake before our next weather maker arrives late Tuesday night.
High pressure extending from Hudson bay southward to the Ohio valley has shutdown most lake effect activity off of Ontario and has even cleared skies out. This high will be in firm control over our area providing us with dry, but cold February weather.
Generally clear skies, dew points around +10F, a solid snow pack on the ground, and diminishing winds will allow for temperatures to tumble tonight. Lows across the board will generally be between 5-10, with locally colder reading south of the Thruway.
For Monday, just a slight chance of a few morning flurries off the lake. Skies should become partly sunny for the afternoon. The only fly in the ointment is that a disturbance over the Canadian Maritimes might try and sneak in a few mid level clouds from the northeast. It’s a difficult call at this juncture, but I still am optimistic for a clearing trend on Monday. Another unseasonably cold day with highs running a good 10 degrees below normal values for this time of the season — low to mid 20s will be the call.
Mostly sunny will surly return for Tuesday, especially in the morning. Mid to high level clouds will begin to stream in from the southwest as the day wears on out ahead of our next system, but snow showers won’t arrive until Wednesday morning. As for temps, they’ll run a few degrees warmer than Monday, but still only in the mid 20s.
Looking forward to Wednesday, everyone will see some light snow passing through throughout the day. 2-3″ is the current thinking, but I’ll fine tune that as Wednesday approaches.
