Saturday and Sunday will be as different as night and day as a swift moving area of low pressure will put an end to our lengthy streak of pleasant and dry January weather.

Just a dandy of a day on the plate for Saturday as high pressure crests over our area. This dome of high pressure will keep skies clear and winds light Friday night so expect morning lows on Saturday to be on the frigid side — upper teens. After a cold start, we’ll have plenty of sunshine with temperatures near 40 degrees.

Now on Sunday, as the high slides east, we’ll have a southwesterly return flow of mild moist air driving temperatures up to near 50 degrees out ahead of the aforementioned low. Showers will begin to develop early afternoon and will continue through the overnight into Monday morning.

With the anticipated rain on Sunday through Monday morning and with a snowpack in place, the threat for flooding will be a concern. Most creeks and rivers are obviously ice covered so drainage will be a issue. I don’t expect a soaking of a rain, but some low lying areas will be affected by minor flooding
