Mild Weather Continues
I am willing to bet the majority of the citizens of WNY are not complaining about the atypical mid January thaw we are currently in as the cold arctic air that had a firm grip over our area has retreated to Hudson Bay allowing a Pacific flow of mild (relativity) and moist air to fill its void.
The large upper level pattern over North America doesn’t look like it will shift much for at least 7-10 days. This will keep temperatures at or even above seasonable values (low 30s) for this time of year with limited chances of precipitation as well. With open water lake temperatures in the mid 30s on Lake Ontario and Lake Erie around the freezing mark, the lakes will remain quiet during this time period.
Outside of a few passing flurries on Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will top out in the mid 30s on both of those days. Sunny skies return for Thursday sending temperatures back to the upper 30s. Maybe a flurry on Friday, but remaining in the 30s. Saturday looks like a beauty with plenty of sun and temperatures near 40. Not bad for January.
