It Must Be Tough Living in Florida in January
I was just perusing area forecasts around the country to see where the warm weather was, since it surly isn’t in Rochester, and found myself in southern Florida (Miami area). I was surprised to see that projected highs for today were only in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Upon closer inspection, I saw the National Weather Service in Miami has placed much of southern Florida under a Wind Chill Advisory for later tonight into Thursday morning.
I quote from the “Urgent Winter Weather Message” …
“THE COMBINATION OF TEMPERATURES FALLING INTOTHE 30S ACROSS COASTAL AND METRO LOCATIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA AND WINDS OF 5 TO 10 MPH AT TIMES WILL CREATE WIND CHILLS BELOW 35 DEGREES FOR SEVERAL HOURS OVERNIGHT.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS CAN LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS…MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.”
Are you kidding me? They need to alert the public for wind chill readings under 35 degrees labeling it as “very cold air” and consider winds of 5 to 10mph to be “strong”. I also find it amusing they urge the public to don hats and gloves if you “must” venture outside. Give me a break Florida.
Come on Buffalo, where’s your advisory with that wind chill of 4 degrees right outside my door. I am upset you are not urging me to bundle up today.
