Lake effect snow, cold temperatures, and sub zero wind chills — it must be January in Rochester. On Friday evening, a arctic cold front crossed Western New York as cold air continues to spill into our area. This air is plenty cold enough to generate widespread lake effect showers and squalls from Friday night straight through Sunday night.

On Saturday, expect periods of snow showers to sweep through the county off of the lake. A general 2-4″ will be found with temperatures only making it into the low to mid teens. A stiff northwest breeze will drive wind chills down below zero.

More of the same for the day on Sunday. More rounds of lake snows with another 2-4″. Once again, highs will only reach the mid teens.

The upcoming week will feature more snow and more cold as a stalled low off the New England coast will keep the flow north/northwesterly. Although we will see snow nearly everyday, daily snow totals will be manageable to our standards and won’t cause any issues.
