NASA calls this one the best meteor show of 2009. The annual Geminid meteor shower is here, peaking December 13th and 14th. Since we are close to a new moon, that will keep the night sky even darker for ideal viewing. As that storm system exits the northeast, the skies are beginning to clear up so it looks like there will be a decent forecast for those astronomy lovers.

Be sure to dress warmly if you are heading outside. As you’re standing still looking up at the sky with temperatures around the freezing mark, you sure will feel a nip in the air.

These meteors will appear to be falling out of the sky from the constellation Gemini, and good news, the rate of meteors viewed during this meteor shower has greatly increased over its history. Looks like this will be quite the show for years to come! So grab the hot chocolate and enjoy!
