Rochester, NY Forecast October 8th
Our roller coaster ride of weather will continue over the next 48 hours as the surface low that brought with it the gusty winds on Wednesday heads out to sea. High pressure over Carolinas will build for the day on Thursday clearing things out, but another low will move in from the Mid West of Friday with another batch of showers and thunderstorms.
The main headline from the day on Wednesday were those gusty winds. The Rochester airport saw a peak wind gust of 43 knots, or 49.5 mph right around noon. As of 6pm Wednesday, we are still dealing with a few gusts to near 30 mph, but the wind will diminish this evening. The other story from Wednesday was the lake effect rain. Here in Rochester, we were blind sided from both Lakes. Lake Erie gave the west side of town a soaker this morning as winds were from the southwest; however, the winds gradually turned more northwesterly by mid afternoon as the area was downwind of Lake Ontario with a few more passing showers moving through. All but a few isolated showers remain.
We can expect a mostly dry night Wednesday into Thursday. A few more showers will develop off of Ontario later tonight, but they will generally be light and swift moving. Our lows tonight will range from the mid 40s around town, to low 40s elsewhere.
We’ll see plenty of sunshine on Thursday from sun up through the afternoon. Mostly sunny skies will yield highs back in the mid 60s… pretty balmy compared to the past few days.
As far as the upcoming weekend is concerned, a few showers will linger into the day on Saturday, but Sunday will be dry with a return to a mix of sun and clouds. Both days will remain the 50s.
A few days ago I touched upon our first taste of late fall weather arriving next week. It’s still looking pretty “good” that we’ll see temperatures well below normal by the start of next week. This air looks cold enough that I am going to say we’ll see our first flakes of the season by next Friday… Stay tuned.
