A cold northwesterly flow continues around a surface low stationed east of Hudson Bay. The abnormally cold temperatures, especially aloft, had led to a generally gray gloomy day from Detroit to Caribou, Maine. Highs didn’t even make it to 50 degrees in Rochester on Wednesday — weather more typical of early November. Unfortunately, this pattern will continue for another few days yet.

Another chill night on deck. Our low here in Monroe County will bottom out around 40, but those of you reading from the south of Rochester, you can expect upper 30s down there. The Lakes will be active later tonight to the southwest of both Erie and Ontario. I don’t think we’ll see much, but a passing sprinkle is possible on the east side of town. Mostly cloudy otherwise.

There is some “good” news for the day on Thursday. Any lake effect showers will come to and end by mid morning. I think we’ll see a few more rays of sunshine by late morning. Despite a few breaks of sun, highs will only max out in the low 50s. A good 15 degrees below normal.
