The next 24-36 hours will be marked as an active period as another cool front takes aim at Western and Central New York. Earlier this morning, a warm front lifted north leaving all of us in the warm sector as I am sure you could tell by the change in air mass from yesterday to today. Temperatures reached the mid to upper 80s with surface dew points back up near 70° making the atmosphere a ticking time bomb for thunderstorm development. The area will need to stay alert for strong to severe thunderstorms beginning this evening (Thursday) and continuing through the day on Friday.

At 7pm, a line of strong thunderstorms extending from Columbus, OH all the way to northwest of Toronto. This line will move NE and affect the area later this evening. Expect this line to begin to affect the area around 9pm. We will see a break in the action after midnight. Mostly cloudy skies and plentiful low level moisture will keep tonight very warm and muggy. Lows tonight will range from the low 70s inland, to the mid 70s downtown.

For Friday, scattered thunderstorms will re-develop late morning. A handful of storms will pack surly a wallop. Heavy rain and damaging winds will be the main threat. We will see highs in the upper 70s before the storms hit. I hope to have more updates tomorrow as things get going. Stay tuned.
